How flight actually works

The short answer

Flight is what AION was known for, and the single most common question about the sequel is whether it kept the restrictions. NCSOFT’s answer, published on 4 June 2025, is one sentence: "The game offers full aerial freedom in every region, along with underwater exploration". The publisher then built the game’s logo around flight. What it has never published is the other half — how long you can fly, at what cost, and whether anything limits it.

Background

In the original AION, flight was allowed in some zones and forbidden in others, and knowing which was part of playing well. The sequel’s announcement of 4 June 2025 removes the regional restriction explicitly — "in every region" — and pairs flight with underwater exploration, "a feature not present in the original", in the same sentence. NCSOFT reinforced the commitment at the identity stage: the announcement of 14 May 2025 describes "a new logo inspired by the franchise’s iconic flight system". A Wings Enhance System was added on the Korean service on 27 May 2026.

The part worth reading twice

Here is the honest state of the published record, and it is thinner than any other guide will tell you. Confirmed: flight works in every region, and underwater exploration exists alongside it. Not published, anywhere this site has looked across seventeen official announcements: flight duration, altitude limits, resource cost, unlock conditions, or any no-fly area. One later addition is dated — a Wings Enhance System, introduced on the Korean service on 27 May 2026 — but NCSOFT published no detail of what it enhances or how.

The mistake to avoid

The misconception is imported wholesale from the first game: that flight is a timed resource you spend and refill, gated zone by zone. NCSOFT has said the regional gating is gone. On the timer, it has said nothing at all — and this site will not fill that silence with the original game’s rules, which is what most flight guides for AION 2 currently do. The practical advice: assume you can fly everywhere, and treat any specific number you read about flight time as unsourced until NCSOFT publishes one.
