What this class does

The Ranger is AION 2’s long-range class. NCSOFT’s official announcement of 4 June 2025 describes it as a "Long-range scout class" — built to work at distance and to see trouble before the group walks into it. Note the name: that 2025 announcement called the class "Marksman", while the game’s own official data now returns "Ranger". It is the same class under its current name, and this site uses Ranger throughout. NCSOFT has not published which weapon it uses, so this page does not name one. All classes were reworked on 25 March 2026, which is the last balance change on record.

What changed, and when

This class carries a naming change worth recording: NCSOFT’s announcement of 4 June 2025 used "Marksman", and the game’s official data interface now returns "Ranger". Any guide still using the old name is working from 2025 material. The rework of 25 March 2026 is the most recent change on record (official NCSOFT announcement, same date); it lists "Supporting Fire (Ranger)" among the new Stigma skills, which is also the moment the current name appears in an official announcement. That same announcement expanded the maximum number of Stigma slots to five for every class, restricted Immune and Immortal effects from being applied consecutively within a 30-second window, introduced Perfect Shield Block and Perfect Parry, and separated PvP and PvE damage calculations with balance adjustments made "to reduce damage gaps between certain skills".

What matters for advanced play

The name of the new Stigma skill is itself informative: "Supporting Fire", added on 25 March 2026 (official NCSOFT announcement, same date), is a group-facing name on a class the publisher describes as a long-range scout. NCSOFT published no description of what the skill does, so this page does not guess. What is established is the frame around it: the maximum number of Stigma slots was expanded to five, and PvP and PvE damage calculations have been separated — so range advantages measured against monsters do not carry over to fights against players. The same announcement introduced Chaotic Abyss, where "players are divided into West and East forces at the server level, engaging in large-scale battles regardless of race alignment", while "Spacetime Rift will continue to operate under the current race-based matchmaking system".

The classic mistake

The classic mistake with this class is a research problem before it is a gameplay one: you will find guides calling it Marksman and guides calling it Ranger, and you will not know whether you are reading about two classes or one. It is one. NCSOFT’s announcement of 4 June 2025 used Marksman; the announcement of 25 March 2026 and the game’s official data both use Ranger. Anything written under the old name is from 2025 at the latest, which means it predates the rework and the separation of PvP and PvE damage calculations. So pick the Ranger if you want to fight at distance and scout ahead of your group — that is the role the publisher assigns it. Do not pick it expecting close-range burst; the same announcement calls the Assassin a "Precision-based melee specialist". And as on every class page here: NCSOFT has not announced what content the Western launch of 30 September 2026 opens with.
