What this class does

The Assassin is AION 2’s precision melee class. NCSOFT’s official announcement of 4 June 2025 describes it as a "Precision-based melee specialist" — wording that points at single-target work and positioning rather than at hitting crowds. In a group it is the class you bring to delete one priority target, not to clear a room. NCSOFT has not published which weapon the class uses, so this page does not name one. Every claim here carries its date: AION 2 launched in Korea and Taiwan on 19 November 2025, and all classes were reworked on 25 March 2026, which is the last balance change on record.

02

What changed, and when

The rework of 25 March 2026 is the most recent change on record for this class (official NCSOFT announcement, same date). It gave the Assassin a new Stigma skill, "Shadowstep". The general changes announced that day apply here too: "The maximum number of Stigma slots has also been expanded to five", "Immune and Immortal effects can no longer be applied consecutively within a 30-second window", two new defensive mechanics were introduced — Perfect Shield Block and Perfect Parry — and "PvP and PvE damage calculations have been separated, and balance adjustments have been made to reduce damage gaps between certain skills". The class’s earlier lineage in the wider AION series is not covered by any source this page can date, so it is not asserted here.

What matters for advanced play

The separation of PvP and PvE damage on 25 March 2026 matters more for this class than for most (official NCSOFT announcement, same date), because a precision melee class is judged almost entirely on what it does to one target — and after that date, what it does to a player and what it does to a monster are two different calculations. Five Stigma slots widen the build, and "Shadowstep" is the new option among them. The same announcement introduced Chaotic Abyss, where "players are divided into West and East forces at the server level, engaging in large-scale battles regardless of race alignment", while "Spacetime Rift will continue to operate under the current race-based matchmaking system". NCSOFT released no numbers with the balance pass, so this page states none.

The classic mistake

The classic mistake is picking the Assassin for raw damage and discovering that the class asks for placement before it gives anything back. The publisher’s wording is the clue: NCSOFT’s announcement of 4 June 2025 calls it a "Precision-based melee specialist", and precision is a demand on the player, not a promise about damage. So pick the Assassin if you want to choose one target and reach it, and if getting your position right is the part of combat you enjoy. Do not pick it to clear packs — the same announcement gives the Gladiator "Powerful, wide-area skill attacks" — and do not pick it on any tier list written before 25 March 2026, since PvP and PvE damage calculations were separated that day and single-target output is exactly what that change affects. As on every class page here: NCSOFT has not announced what content opens at the Western launch of 30 September 2026.
