Arcana

Arcana is AION 2’s set-effect system, and it is one of the few systems whose numbers NCSOFT has actually published. Introduced through Season 2, it works in parts and set effects: the part Scales arrived on 23 February 2026 with two effects, Frenzy and Pure Blood, and three further sets — Punishing Overture, Protected Soul and Indomitable Dedication — came on 13 May 2026. Each carries a stated percentage. It has not been announced for the Western release in this form.

Two dated announcements build this system. On 23 February 2026, NCSOFT added "the new Arcana part Scales and two Arcana set effects—Frenzy and Pure Blood", tied to a specific source: "Scales can be crafted exclusively using Harmonious Crystal, a material obtained from Sunken Temple of Life." On 13 May 2026 came three more sets — "Punishing Overture, Protected Soul, and Indomitable Dedication" — released with the Transcendence dungeon Mirror of Scarlet Desire, alongside expanded Arcana Crystal extraction options.

This is the rare system where the published record gives you numbers to plan with (official NCSOFT announcements, 23 February and 13 May 2026). Frenzy "increases boss damage amplification by 5%", Pure Blood boosts critical damage, and of the May sets, Protected Soul "increases Restoration by 5%" and Indomitable Dedication "increases Weapon Damage Tolerance by 5%". The other half of the design is where the materials come from: Scales is crafted exclusively from Harmonious Crystal, obtained from Sunken Temple of Life — so an Arcana set is gated behind a specific dungeon, not behind currency.

The mistake to avoid is treating Arcana as a currency purchase. NCSOFT ties at least one part to a single source: Scales is crafted "exclusively using Harmonious Crystal, a material obtained from Sunken Temple of Life" (announcement of 23 February 2026). That makes your Arcana progress a consequence of which dungeons you can clear, and the entry ladder for those dungeons is published — 3,000 for Sunken Temple of Life, 3,200 for Mirror of Scarlet Desire. What it costs you is therefore dungeon access, not money. And note the effects are stated at 5% each: useful, not transformative, and worth weighing against the item level needed to reach them.
