How it works

Elyos and Asmodians are the two factions of AION, and AION 2 makes a structural choice about them that deserves attention before you pick a side. NCSOFT’s official announcement of 4 June 2025 states there are "Separate servers for Elyos and Asmodians to improve faction balance". Read that literally: the split is at the server level, not merely at the character level. It is the kind of decision that shapes who you can play with, and it is confirmed by the publisher rather than reported by players.

02

What changed, and when

Faction imbalance is the oldest structural problem of two-sided MMORPGs: when one side outnumbers the other, contested content stops working for everyone. NCSOFT’s announcement of 4 June 2025 names that problem and its answer in one line — "Separate servers for Elyos and Asmodians to improve faction balance". The announcement states the measure and its stated purpose. It does not describe how cross-faction content is then organised, and this page does not guess: NCSOFT has published no explanation of how players on separate servers meet.

03

The detail that changes how you play

The practical consequence to weigh is not about combat, it is about who you end up playing with. Since the announcement of 4 June 2025 places the Elyos and Asmodian split at the server level, your faction choice and your server choice are bound together — and server choice is normally the hardest decision to reverse in an MMORPG. NCSOFT has not published whether characters of both factions can coexist on one account, nor how realm-versus-realm content brings the two sides together. Note that the announcement of 25 March 2026 introduced Chaotic Abyss, in which "players are divided into West and East forces at the server level, engaging in large-scale battles regardless of race alignment" — an arrangement that explicitly sets race aside.

04

The common misconception

The misconception worth clearing is that picking a faction in AION 2 is a cosmetic or lore choice you can adjust later. NCSOFT’s announcement of 4 June 2025 states that Elyos and Asmodians are on "Separate servers", which makes the choice structural rather than aesthetic. So decide it the way you would decide a server: with the people you intend to play with, not on appearance. What it costs you is unknown in one specific respect — NCSOFT has published nothing about transfers between servers or factions, and this page will not assume they exist. And as on every page here: NCSOFT has not announced what content the Western launch of 30 September 2026 opens with.
