How it works

Mounts in AION 2 are not bought from a vendor by default — they are taken from the world. NCSOFT’s official announcement of 4 June 2025 describes "A unique system where defeated monsters can be tamed and used as mounts". The order of the words matters: the monster is defeated first, then tamed. That makes mount collection an activity tied to combat and exploration rather than to a shop, which is unusual enough that the publisher calls the system unique. Which monsters qualify has not been published.

02

What changed, and when

NCSOFT introduced this system among the core content of AION 2 in its announcement of 4 June 2025, in a single sentence: "A unique system where defeated monsters can be tamed and used as mounts". That sentence is the entirety of what the publisher has confirmed. It does not say which monsters can be tamed, whether taming can fail, whether it consumes an item, or whether tamed mounts differ from one another in speed or ability. Press coverage of AION 2 has mentioned collectable creatures in larger numbers, but this site treats figures it cannot attribute to a dated NCSOFT source as unconfirmed, and does not print them.

03

The detail that changes how you play

The advanced reading of this system is what it implies about where your time goes. Because the announcement of 4 June 2025 ties taming to defeating monsters, mount acquisition sits inside ordinary combat and exploration rather than beside them — which means open-world time has a collection value that a shop-based mount system would not give it. NCSOFT has published no taming rates, no per-monster conditions and no list of tameable creatures, so this page offers no route or priority. Any specific taming guide you find today is based on play reports, not on published rules.

04

The common misconception

The misconception to correct is the assumption that a taming system means every monster you defeat is a potential mount. NCSOFT’s announcement of 4 June 2025 says defeated monsters "can be tamed and used as mounts" without stating which ones, and a system described in one sentence is not a system whose eligibility rules are public. So do not plan a farming route around unverified lists. What it costs you is time in the open world rather than currency — that much follows directly from the source, since taming is tied to defeating monsters. And as on every page here: NCSOFT has not announced what content the Western launch of 30 September 2026 opens with.
