Two weeks after launch, on 3 December 2025, NCSOFT shipped the update players had asked for — and one of its changes still governs PvP today. It added a PvP on-off switch: "AION 2 adds a PvP On/Off feature through the new War Mode… The mode can be toggled only within faction territories and includes a 70-minute cooldown." It also shortened the Spacetime Rift cycle and expanded its capacity. It has not been announced for the Western release in this form.
Where it sits in the record
This is the first content update after the Korean launch, and NCSOFT frames it as drawn from player feedback: "Enhanced Spacetime Rift experience with shorter cycles and expanded capacity", quality-of-life improvements, and adjustments to Abyss content and Deity stats. It also previewed the 10 December update, "introducing a unified auction house and improved visibility in large-scale battles". Its lasting contribution is War Mode, whose 70-minute cooldown NCSOFT has not revised in any later announcement this site has found.
What it actually changed
The 70-minute cooldown is the detail to carry forward. Because War Mode "can be toggled only within faction territories and includes a 70-minute cooldown" (official NCSOFT announcement, 3 December 2025), your PvP exposure is a decision taken in advance and in a specific place — not something you adjust when a fight turns. Note the shape of this update more generally: a launch-window patch that fixed cycle length and capacity on the game’s main realm-versus-realm mode. That is the publisher discovering its own pacing, two weeks in.
What to be careful with
Before anything else: this update applies to the Korean service, and NCSOFT has published nothing about its state at the Western launch of 30 September 2026. The misconception to clear is that PvP in AION 2 is always on. Since December 2025 it is a toggle — but a toggle with a 70-minute cooldown, usable only inside faction territory. So do not plan on switching it off mid-session. And do not read the Spacetime Rift figures from before this date: the cycle was shortened and the capacity expanded here, and NCSOFT has published no numbers for either state.
