What was announced

On 14 May 2025, NCSOFT gave AION 2 its identity. The announcement presents the game as "the official successor to NCSOFT’s flagship IP AION, featuring a new logo inspired by the franchise’s iconic flight system", launches the brand website, and shows the first in-game footage. For anyone tracing what the publisher has actually committed to, this is where the record starts — and the choice to build the logo on flight is the first signal of what the sequel keeps from the original.

02

Where it sits in the record

This is the earliest AION 2 press release this site has been able to date. It does three things: it names the game the official successor to AION, it unveils a brand website "highlighting the conflict between Elyos and Asmodians" with the first in-game footage, and it announces a live broadcast for 29 May 2025. That broadcast became AION2NIGHT, the livestream series that carried most of the pre-launch reveals. Everything this site documents about the game before its Korean launch descends from this announcement and the ones that followed it.

03

What it actually changed

What matters here is not news but provenance. Two design commitments appear at the identity stage rather than later: flight, which the publisher put into the logo itself, and the Elyos-Asmodian conflict, which the website was built around. Both were confirmed as gameplay in the announcement of 4 June 2025 — "full aerial freedom in every region" and "Separate servers for Elyos and Asmodians to improve faction balance". A feature a publisher builds its logo on is a feature it does not quietly drop.

04

What to be careful with

The mistake with an announcement this old is treating it as current. It is not: it predates the Korean launch by six months and the Western launch by sixteen. Nothing in it describes the game as it runs today. What it is useful for is the opposite — it is the fixed point against which later changes can be read. If you want to know whether something is a long-standing commitment or a recent addition, this is where you check whether it was there at the start. And note what it does not contain: no date, no price, no platform commitment for the West.
